Biohacking

Maybe you have heard the term before, so what exactly is biohacking? Simply put, biohacking is making small changes to your diet or lifestyle to make improvements in your health and wellbeing. Biohacking is about self-improvement and there are numerous ways of achieving this through simple changes your daily routine. Whether modifying your diet to include certain foods or supplements, or adding some lifestyle techniques like cold swimming, cryotherapy or simply meditating, small changes can add up to considerable health benefits.

At Functional Nutrition London some of our favourite supplements fall into this category. These are powerful tools we use to help our clients reach optimum health. They shouldn’t, however, be taken without checking for safety; part of our service is to check each supplement for safety with any medication or specific needs. Often our clients are on a raft of self-prescribed supplements which are actually stopping them from achieving the their health goals!

Have you been meticulous with your diet, carefully meditating each day, getting plenty of sleep and still feeling exhausted? It might be that your MITOCHONDRIA need some attention. What exactly are mitochondria? They are the power producers within each or our cells (aside from red cells). It’s not believed that billions of years ago our mitochondria were separate energy producing bacteria that became part of us! Our mitochondria are involved in cell signalling, cell death, production of hormones and neurotransmitters, protect against oxidative damage and are probably the best way to determine our biological age! The main function is to produce our energy source- ATP in over 40 different organs in the body. Clearly, mitochondria are important for our health. We work with specific biohacks to support ‘mito’ health. Get in touch to see how!
